HISTORY
OF MUASDALE HOUSE |
|
|
Christine Johnston
from Canada, called in to see us Spring 2009, she e-mailed
me the following photos and information about Muasdale House.
|
|

"House with my
father in it was taken around 1906 with his grandmother
Elizabeth Colvill and his mother Jean (also known as) Jane Colvill."
|
|

Very remote location in those
days.

"Wedding was taken
of Jean's wedding to the Rev.William Galbraith of Campbeltown.
Elizabeth and Robert Colvill are to the right of the groom, his
mother and step father to the left of the bride. It was taken I
suspect
at his town home of Bellgrove. Still standing and looking good
in Campbeltown.
Date would have been around 1890.
John who bought Muasdale was provost of Campbeltown 1842-8.
Previously he owned Drumgarve and later Gartrellian farms still in
the Glen Lussa valley to the east. He established Springside which
closed in 1922 or so, open a long time and had shares in several
other distilleries such as the one where the Creamery now is. Robert
inherited these and carried on.
Unsure who took over Muasdale House after Elizabeth Colvill died. They had
6 children."

We understand that Muasdale House was a Customs House at one time,
need to find out more.
